FROM THE PAST - While my husband served in Vietnam, I was accredited with the U.S. and Vietnamese military press offices in South Vietnam over a period of more than three years, 1963-1964 and 1967-1968. During that time, I wrote over 150 syndicated features about the life of the military in South Vietnam. Many of my topics were about the customs and culture of the country which led to my book, Customs and Culture of Vietnam™, published in 1966 by the Charles E. Tuttle Company of Rutland, Vermont and Tokyo, Japan. There is a saying, "freedom of the press belongs to he who owns the press." My dream became "Why not me?" When I left Vietnam for the last time in 1968, I was discouraged by many of the news stories published about our military troops. I vowed that one day I would have my own publication that would give the positive side of our U.S. military lifestyle. That publication, Military Living™ magazine, led to Military Living's® other military travel books and newsletters. It also led to a family business when my husband, Roy, retired from the Army in 1982 and our son, Roy, Jr. (RJ), joined us a year or so later. My nephew, Jack Caddell and my niece, Betsy Caddell, also work with us in producing Military Living's® publications. With all of their hard work over the years, Military Living™ has become somewhat of a family institution. It is now 2008, and I stand by that original goal. If it is good or helpful news, or news you need to know, it will be published under the Military Living™ logo.
