John and Cindy Gardner Visit the NEW
Presidential Inn at Andrews Joint Base
Maryland

From Andrews Joint Base, Presidential Inn, June 26th, 2010 This brand new facility opened on Monday June 15, and we arrived June 21st. Our reservations were for three nights, but after one night we

were asked to leave. A large group of “Priority One VIP’s” were expected. Security & dogs were brought in to ensure the rooms were safe. A few of us waited in the comfortable lounge that adjoins the spacious lobby, hoping that some rooms would open up later in the evening. Our patience

& persistence were rewarded with another three nights lodging at this new Presidential Inn. The VIP’s were all housed on the second floor, allow ing for some first floor vacancies.

Rooms are standard AF lodging: queen bed (or long double?), but the rooms appear more spacious than either Travis or other AF lodging. There is an elevator & three floors of rooms, with four long corridors. There are a total of 257 rooms; however the third floor is reserved entirely for flight crew. That leaves about 160 rooms potentially available for others. In each room there is WiFi, a new flatscreen

TV, an arm chair, small refrigerator, microwave, and ironing board/iron. Free laundry facilities are available on each floor. (However you need a PhD in Laundry Engineering to figure out how to work the machines.)

The lobby is beautiful and is staffed with hard-working helpful personnel. There is a Rickenbacker‘s

ready-made breakfast/lunch facility right off the lobby. They’re not open on the weekends, but mid-week they do serve Starbucks coffee!

The new Presidential Inn is located 0.6 mile from the terminal. There is a regular shuttle that runs from 0637 to1833 with stops at the PAX Terminal, Presidential Inn, commissary/BX, main gate, & hospital. It’s frequent & convenient, with posted times for each stop. Both lodging & the terminal have the schedule to hand out.

Retirees can not eat at the Freedom Dining Hall, but there are other options around the base. The terminal is one mile from the commissary/BX food court; Sport Page  Grill (0.5 miles from terminal) serves & delivers food on base (3017362159); Burger King; breakfast/lunch at the Golf Course;

and both Starbucks & Kwiky Kebab are on site at gas pumps.
