Lake Forest: This charming suburb is about 15 miles from the naval base and offers a variety of shops, restaurants, and cultural attractions, including the Lake Forest Symphony Orchestra.
Chicago's North Shore: The naval base is about 30 miles from downtown Chicago, and the North Shore offers a variety of attractions, including the Chicago Botanic Garden, the Ravinia Festival, and the Museum of Contemporary Art.
Six Flags Great America: If you're looking for some thrill rides, Six Flags Great America is about 20 miles from the naval base in Gurnee, Illinois.
Volo Bog State Natural Area: This unique natural area is about 25 miles from the naval base and features a bog, hiking trails, and a variety of plant and animal species.
Lake County Fairgrounds: The Lake County Fairgrounds are about 20 miles from the naval base and host a variety of events throughout the year, including the Lake County Fair and the Lake County Wine Festival.
Gurnee Mills: This large outlet mall is about 20 miles from the naval base and offers a variety of shops, restaurants, and entertainment options.
The Chicago Botanic Garden: While not directly adjacent to the naval base, the Chicago Botanic Garden is about 30 miles away and offers beautiful gardens, a variety of plant species, and a variety of educational programs.
Take a boat tour: There are several companies that offer boat tours of Lake Michigan, including the Waukegan Harbor Boat Tours and the Chicago's First Lady Cruises.
