Military Airline Discounts

Here is a list of the Military Discounts offered by carriers. Few companies have discounts on fares. Most discounts are extra luggage or in-flight perks.


Alaska Airlines:

Alaska offers special fares to active duty and their families in some markets. To obtain special fares, military members need to call 1-800-252-7522. A valid military ID or separation papers for travel within seven days of discharge from active military service will be required. Dependent of active duty members older than 10 must also provide military ID.

Booking a military fare grants active duty members and their families five extra bags up to 70lbs each. Service members and family on travel orders would also be able to check up to 5 extra bags 70lbs or less.

All military members and their families also enjoy a 15% discount on food purchases during flights.

Lastly, instead of a standard fee between $250-350, up to $700 for pet travel, active duty member pays $150.00 + tax.

Alaska Airlines offers no discount for retired military.

Allegiant Airlines:

Allegiant Airlines does not offer any airfares discount to Service Members. However, they include Retired Veterans in their benefits.

Active duty, reserve duty, or national guard service members can check up to two baggage free, under 100lbs each, get complimentary priority boarding, and will not be charged when making a change or cancellation due to a change in orders.

Military veterans and spouses or dependents of those mentioned above can check up to two baggage free, under 40lbs each.

Active duty, reserve duty, or national guard, as well as military veterans and spouses or dependents, will benefit from no charge for oversized checked baggage, one carry-on free, one personal item free, free boarding pass printing at the airport, up to 1 pet in the cabin for free.

American Airlines:

American Airlines offers special fares to active duty and their families in some markets.

For some destinations, American Airlines offers service members up to 5 bags, 100 lbs. each for every active U.S. military and dependents traveling on orders, and up to 3 bags, 50 lbs. each for active U.S. military on personal travel.

American Airlines offers no discount for retired military.




Delta Airlines:

Active duty member gets more free checked baggage than civilians. Service members on travel orders can check their pets as luggage for a fee. They must book this at least 48 hours before arrival. Only certain animals will qualify.

The airline offers special military medical travel discounts to war-injured immediate family members or domestic partners.

Delta Airlines offers no discount for retired military.

Frontier Airlines:

Frontier Airlines offers active duty members one free personal item, one free carry-on, and two free checked bags.

Frontier Airlines offers no discount for retired military.

Hawaiian Airlines:

Active duty and qualified family members or retiring members with official travel orders get the first five bags 70lbs or less for free. Active duty on personnel travel receives the first two bags 50lbs or less for free.

Hawaiian Airlines offers no discount for retired military.

Jet Blue:

Active duty and qualified dependents traveling for leisure get 5% off base fares and two free checked bags.

Active duty and families traveling with official orders get up to 5 free checked bags each.

Jet Blue offers no discount for retired military.

Southwest:

Active duty members get two free checked bags. Active-duty in uniforms are invited to board flights between A and B groups.

Southwest offers no discount for retired military.

Spirit Airlines:

In addition to their free personal items, active duty members get a free carry-on and two free checked bags.

Spirit Airlines offers no discount for retired military.

United Airlines:

United Airlines offers no discount unless you subscribe to the Veterans Advantage Program.

United Airlines offers no discount for retired military.
