Military Living Publications® is thrilled to share with you a new series - the Military Charities Spotlight. We are sharing information on charities that benefit YOU - our military veterans and their families. We are running the Military Charities Spotlight to bring attention to some worthy causes. This week we are featuring the Navy-Marine Corps Relief Society.
Navy-Marine Corps Relief Society (NMCRS) provides several programs and services to assist active duty and retired Sailors, Marines and their families in financial need. Their website states, "since 1904, we have provided over $2 billion in financial assistance to more than 5 million active duty and retired Sailors, Marines and their families." The NMCRS offer Quick Assist Loans®, help with emergency travel, visiting nurses, financial or education assistance, and a Budget for Baby® workshop. The loans are interest free, the nurses provide health education and resource referrals, and a range of financial service options.
You can also find NMCRS thrift shops, where active duty and retired Navy/Marine Corps as well as their dependents can shop. In accordance with local command direction and the proper ID, thrift shops may be open to 100% DAV, Navy and Marine Corps Reservists and those on active duty for training and Army, Air Force, Coast Guard, and their dependents, former POWs, DoD Contractors, and more.
There is a disaster relief program that helps with the impact from tornados, hurricanes, wildfires, and floods. This helps with personal or small-scale catastrophic events, post-disaster recovery, and evacuations ordered.
The Navy-Marine Corps Relief Society is a worthy cause, located worldwide on major Navy and Marine Corps installations and onboard ships. Visit their website https://www.nmcrs.org/ to learn how they can help, to support the society, or take a look at their financial overview. Charity Navigator gives this charity a 4 star rating and a score of 100%.
