This Survey Marker was placed in 1873, by a U.S. Army surveying expedition led by Lt. George Wheeler, on the grounds of Fort Douglas, Utah. The north side indicates it as a U.S. Meridian and Latitude Marker, while the south side has listed coordinates. In 1946 a dedication plaque was affixed to the top, dedicating the nearby parade ground to Joseph W. Stilwell. Photo: Mangoman88 via Wikimedia Commons.

  1. (From a long-time “local”). Whether needing to “do business” or just use the small PX, old “Ft Douglas” (now, Stephen A. Douglas Armed Forces Reserve Ctr./AFRC) and it’s nice Post Museum and old cavalry-days Quarters (no VOQ) are well worth visiting up on the high “east bench” of Salt Lake City behind the University of Utah!
